what is a jeroboam?
Perfect for impressing party guests or simply for your own private collection. Altaneve Prosecco and Altaneve Rosé are available for purchase in 3-liter bottles called Jeroboams (sometimes referred to as "Double Magnums").
Though familiarity with the large wine bottle known as a Magnum is quite common, its lesser-known but significantly-larger cousin, the Jeroboam, is of equal repute. For perspective, a standard wine bottle holds 750 mL of wine and is the most common bottle size you will encounter in any wine store.
Slightly larger, a Magnum bottle holds 1.5 liters – the equivalent of 2 standard bottles of wine – while a Jeroboam of Prosecco, by contrast, holds an eye-popping 3 liters (equal to 4 standard bottles of wine)! Accordingly, the Jeroboam is often referred to as a “Double Magnum” (though the term is technically reserved for Bordeaux bottles of this size).
An interesting fact is after the well-known Magnum, the names of wine bottle sizes come directly from the names of kings noted in the Old Testament. It is generally agreed that this list ends with the 30-liter Melchizedek (King of Salem), which holds a stunning equivalent of 40 standard 750 mL bottles of wine!
